As Miaka turns to flee from Yui, a door opens behind her and a figure steps through. With her usual clumsiness, Suzaku no Miko runs smack into Tamahome, the object of her search. She clings to him and sobs; he whispers soothingly that he's been looking for her as he pushes her away and raises his nunchaku to strike. The blow falls, and her arm drops to her side bleeding and broken. A music box falls off the table in the struggle and ironically plays the same tune earlier heard (Scene 7).
