The death of Nuriko.

Scene 61

Volume: # 9
Episode: # 33

As a worried Miaka walks away to look out for the arrival of Mitsukake and the others, Nuriko goes limp in Tamahome's arms, dead. Miaka and the rest of the seishi are horribly grief-stricken, but unfortunately, they do not have the time to grieve. Miaka herself has problems accepting Nuriko's death at first, even refusing to come near the body to pay her last respects; Tamahome drags Miaka near Nuriko. Mitsukake then speaks to Miaka about how it's understandable that she's discouraged, but they don't have time for that, instead they should just focus on moving ahead with what Nuriko would have wanted them to do.

Even though he was not there in time to save him, Mitsukake at least makes Nuriko presentable for burial using the healing water Taiitsukun gave him. After all, Nuriko always looked impeccable. As they stood in front of the Genbu Cavern's massive doors, Miaka bids Nuriko farewell, forever.
