Miaka is devastated by Tamahome's change in personality and especially the fact that Tamahome has recently proclaimed his hatred of her. In order to accomplish her quest, Miaka has left Tamahome forever. Upset at the entire situation, Miaka wanders towards the pond in the royal court and begins to sink. Hotohori feels that something is wrong and jumps in after Miaka. After a struggle, Hotohori is able to save Miaka.
